As the head of Ruder Finn’s Asian offices, Elan SHOU leads a team of over 800 individuals across 30 offices in Asia.
Elan has transformed Ruder Finn’s Asia-Pacific business from a US$10 million traditional public relations agency in 2013 to the US$52 million integrated marketing powerhouse it is today.
She also serves as the Global Chief Growth Officer for Ruder Finn and has introduced top Chinese brands, including Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Xiao Mi, CHANGAN, Roborock and Tik Tok, to audiences around the world.
Under Elan’s leadership, Ruder Finn Asia continues to be recognized for its impactful communications and strategic expertise in reputation transformation. Most recently, Ruder Finn Asia was named Best Agency in Asia Pacific at the 2024 PR Week Global Awards and Greater China Independent Agency of the Year at the 2024 Campaign Agency of the Year Awards.
A recognized trailblazer, Elan received the 2024 Gold Standard Award for Professional Excellence and earned a commendation at the 2023 Asia Pacific Women Leading Change Awards. She was also named PR Agency Head of the Year at the 2020 PR Awards Asia, recognized as one of 25 Asia Pacific Innovators by Holmes Report in 2019, and was among China’s first "Women to Watch" by AdAge in 2012.
Elan believes in giving back to the community and serves as the only Board Member representing Asia on L’Oréal’s Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisory Board. She is also a Trustee for the Institute for Public Relations (IPR) and has also been on the Board of Directors for the China International PR Association (CIPRA) for over a decade.
Elan specializes in corporate reputation management, brand building, issue and crisis management, media training, agency operations and team building. The clients she represents include: Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Tencent, Amazon, IKEA, MHD, Hermes, Cartier, Montblanc, Emirates, Shanghai Disney Resort, Singapore Tourism Board, Twitter, Roche, Abbott, GSK, Dyson, and Visa.
Elan holds an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago and dual bachelor’s degrees from Shanghai Jiaotong University. Committed to continuous learning, she is an alumni of Harvard Business School, having completed both the Senior Executive Leadership program and the Leading Change and Organizational Renewal program. A native of Shanghai, Elan is fluent in Chinese, the Shanghai dialect and English, she is also proficient in conversational Spanish.
